In April we got together with members 0f the Nottingham EWB branch to finish off and install a turbine we started with them last year.
The first two days of the course were held in the university engineering department – getting the turbine ready for installation and fabricating the metalwork for a tower. We then headed out to Wendsor Bridge Farm near Newark to finish off the tower and electrical system before winching it up and watching it spin!
The farm is off-grid and their power comes from a battery bank charged by a previously installed solar system (and a diesel generator when its not sunny). Our turbine is supplementing this solar system adding much needed power when it is dark and windy, saving diesel! More information on the electrical system here.
