Wind Turbine Courses
|
The courses we run follow Hugh Piggott's design for building axial flux machines ranging between 1.2m and 4.2m diameter. During the courses we typically construct a full, functioning turbine from raw materials using simple tools and techniques. They are primarily hands on but also include lectures to relate the practical work to the underlying theory. Tasks include carving the three blades from locally sourced wood, winding the copper coils by hand, positioning the neodymium magnets, casting these parts in fibreglass resin and fabricating a mounting from scrap metal using arc-welding.

The courses assume no previous knowledge however they can also be tailored towards groups with existing expertise.
